Cemeteries of the Gaspe Area

By Morris Patterson © 2015

Around the year 2006 Morris Patterson took photos of the head stones in the Peninsula and York Cemeteries, which he put online for others to view. Within a few years he had photographed the head stones in all the local cemeteries, and more recently continued to branch out until he had completed many of the cemeteries along south coast of the Gaspe Peninsula. Untold hours went into his project, and for several years he sold DVD's containing all his photos. Upon his passing the family kindly donated the entire collection to be included as part of the GoGaspe.com web site, for the whole world to view.

As Morris said in his introduction to the CD, "These pages contains photos of headstones and grave markers of many cemeteries on the Gaspe Coast. The photos were taken in the period from 2006 to 2015, and there are over 11,500 photos in all. Included are all the cemeteries from Riviére-au-Renard to Percé and Murdochville. Also included are all the non-catholic cemeteries as far west as Escuminac on the south shore of Gaspé Peninsula. Every effort has been made to include all gravestones and grave markers in this project. However some of the photographs were taken as early as 2006, so any stones or markers placed after that may not be included."

Listed below are the cemeteries which have been photographed. The number in the brace brackets {} indicate the number of grave markers in each cemetery. There are three options for finding a particular headstone.

In 2017 I uploaded the photos and created the web pages to display them. Thanks to Gary Devouges for suggesting and writing the code to alphabetize all the names for easy searching. -Andy Patterson
