BHi GGGBB I am revisiting this website (after some years) in trying to find out "What ever happened to Walter Caldwell?" There is very little to be found about his background. All I have been able to find to date is the following timeline: (1) ca, 1729-35 Walter was born (2) 1770 - His daughter Eleanor "Helen" C. was born at New Carlisle which I question. (3) 1784- Walter named on board the Snow "Liberty" (one of several Provincial Vessels) that embarked from Quebec on 9th June 1784 bound for Chaleur Bay, with Loyalists & Discharged Soldiers, establishing the settlement of Cox Township (now New Carlisle). Listed on board the same vessel was one William Garrett (b. 1751 England,). (4) ca. 1793 Eleanor m. William Garrett in New Carlisle and they had 5 children. (5) 12th August 1844 William Garrett died at Little Pabos.(6) 5th Nov 1862 - Eleanor died at Shigawake. From the little I have found raises many more questions for me. (a) Where was he born? (b) Who was his spouse and where did they marry? Was he related to my g/g/g/g/g-f Robert Caldwell UEL (b.ca 1735 Co Antrim, IRE:; m.ca 1760 Sarah H. Todd IRE; d. 1825 at New Carlisle) who travelled to New Carlisle late in 1784 after Walter.(c) Was Walter a Loyalist? (d) Did the Provincial vessels come from the Gaspe Coast? (e) Where did Walter move to after 1784, as he did not appear in 1785 to be allocated land allotment/s at New Carlisle. To me Walter Caldwell is my "Mystery Man", which requires assistance from others to help solve the mystery Regards Bob C. P.S I come to this website via my g/g/g-f Charles Campbell C,(b.1812, New Carlisle); son of my g/g/g/g-f John Todd C. (b.1763 NYS, USA) and the g-son of Robert C, who somehow turned up to m. Margaret Jane Symington (b. 1817 Dungannon, Co Tyrone) at St Andrews Scots Church, Sydney, NSW, Australia in 1842.
