I am trying to find out the first Garrett who arrived in Gaspe and he was from Ireland because the dna test says that it is Irish and Scottish blood.

So I am not sure who the first Garrett was but my relatives arrived on ship from Ireland. Great Great Great Great Grandfather born in Ireland I would have to look at the records but 1797 or thereabouts and died in Gaspe in 1851. My great great Grandfather married Clara Garrett in Gaspe. Her dad\'s name was William Garret. I have a picture of Clara and my Great Great Grandfather probably taken in the 1930\'s or early 40\'s. Many years ago I did alot of research even found most of their graves...including the Garrets. Off hand they likely were married in the late 1800\'s. At one time I believe I came across the ship dockets. Most of them arrived from Ireland in the 1840\'s as a result of the great Potato Famine. I suspect the Garrets arrived in Gaspe at around the same time maybe even on the same ship! I have a ton of old records but would have to do some real digging as it has been years since I looked at them!

The first Garrett to arrive in the Gaspe (area) was William Garrett (born around 1748-1751). From the records and research I have found done by others, he arrived in New Carlisle in June 1783 upon a ship called the Snow Liberty. He fought in the revolutionary war and was wounded in the leg. He died in 1844. He is my 4th great grandfather. I have not been able to find any definitive records from before his arrival in New Carlisle in 1783. He married Eleanor Caldwell.
