I would like to thank Andy Patterson for making the gogaspe.com site available as a means of accessing the historical writing done by my late father, Ken Annett.
In the days of typewriters and no internet access my Dad developed a remarkable body of research work. Some of his efforts resulted in bound volumes available in a number of locations such as the Museum in Gaspe. Some were featured in SPEC or other Gaspe publications, but today are only available by looking at the original source material. He often spoke on CBC's Quebec AM and was interviewed by CTV's Harvey Kirck for a series called "Sketches of Our Town".
His passion was for the entire Gaspe coast which he travelled extensively all his life. He had a vast collection of collaborators and contacts with whom he exchanged material and resources.
While residing in Quebec City, especially after his retirement, he started to explore the treasure trove of old notarial records stored in the provincial archives. Much of this material will never see the light of day as the contents of the miles of boxes have not be catalogued except in the most cursory of fashion.
Dad's bound volumes covered only a portion of his research. The eleven volumes he self published represent less than half of the monographs he completed. In addition he researched the Annett family as well as that of my mother's line, the Laws.
It is our intent that we will continue to add to this archive and bring to light the full breadth of his interests. -Richard Annett
